Forestry Ecological Society

Think globally, act locally.

It is one of the most exploited adages nowadays.  A lot of people or groups for that matter are using this as the center of their action or goal.  But not all are serious in animating what this philosophy actually is.

One group that breathes and lives with this principle is Forestry Ecological Society.  The group has actually anchored its mission in this philosophy added with a specific purpose.  As the motto of this group says:  "Think globally, act locally in the conservation, protection and preservation of our natural resources and the environment."

True to its philosophy, FES, as the group is usually referred to, does not need to be noticed.  It does not need some media mileage and even some promotion to let the whole world know that it exists.  It simply does its job, function and its obligation in conserving, protecting and preserving our mother nature.  After all, one does not have to advertise that he is doing this for the benefit of the mother earth.  Simply stated, sincerity in helping our mother earth is done with humility.

About the Group

Forestry Ecological Society or FES is a society group whose members believe that the creation of such group will foster their common hopes, aspirations, ideals and purposes with regard to our Mother Nature.  It is founded by then ambitious and selfless students of the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies (formerly known as the College of Forestry) of Mindanao State University in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur in the year 1992.  The organization's founders are Emmanuel Flores, Johnny Pagapong and Guilry Cabatuan.  What the trio had in mind at that time was to have a group that is basically focused in the conservation, protection and the preservation of our Mother Nature in their college only.  They were not thinking that their once humble organization has grown this far, reaching its tentacles to different campuses of the country, such as  in Bukidnon, Butuan in CARAGA, Benguet, Visayas, Surigao del Sur and in Lanao del Norte.

Coupled with the growth of its group, the members and its alumni have relatively spread within the nook and corner of the archipelago and even have reached to the other parts of the world.  Despite the progress of the group, it has still maintained its principle of thinking globally but acting locally but it has more widespread effect.

From the solid foundation of FES in MSU-Marawi City, the tentacles of service in conserving, protecting and preserving the mother earth have reached the different campuses in the Philippines.  Below are the photos of the banner of the different chapters of FES.  Just recently, FES has opened its portal in Surigao del Sur, Visayas Region and in Benguet as new chapters were planted there.

What the organization does?

FES is doing what others may have called negligible jobs.  These are, but not limited to, the usual activities of FES:

Pulot Cellophane - FES members are into collecting trash of other people especially those plastic and cellophane. If they saw persons throw their trashes improperly, they would readily come and pick them up. It is as if the group would be willing to clean the trashes of other person.  Though, it sounds absurd, the idea of doing it is very effective because it would put into shame the culprit of throwing garbage anywhere.

Tree Planting - Trees are the source of life so to speak. Thus, members are planting trees for an indefinite quantity and for an endless time as possible.  For as long there are vacant lots and willing landowners allowing their lots to be planted with trees, FES members would plant trees incessantly.

Tree Caring - FES duty does not end after the trees are planted.  They would impose tender and loving care so to ensure the viability of trees.

Seminar - FES members are much willing to conduct seminars and symposiums for the instilling knowledge how to conserve, protect and preserve our mother earth and the environment.

FES is not only confined within the bounds of its backyard.  Members are willing to tie up with other government agencies, other organizations and association with the common aspirations and beliefs.

Today FES is continually true to its principles and beliefs.  Especially with the advent of this climate change phenomenon, the more FES would be vigorous in conserving, protecting and preserving our mother earth and the environment.
