A Balut Affair to Remember

A Balut image grabbed from bing images.

A balut or balot is a developing duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos (khai look ໄຂ່ລູກ in Lao, Cambodia (pong tia koon ពងទាកូន in Cambodian)[1] and Vietnam (trứng vịt lộn or hột vịt lộn in Vietnamese). They are often served with beer says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_%28egg%29.

It is one of the trademarks that makes us unique from the rest of the world.  It is our prude, although it is also common to our neighboring nations here in Southeast Asia.  Accordingly, balut is an aphrodisiac, but it is not entirely correct I guess.

When we introduced this delicious delicacy to our foreign foster daughter Camille last July, she hesitated to taste it.  Thus, we did not force her to eat it.  However, just last week, we challenged our Ate Camille to have a bite of our famous balut so that she may have something to remember here in the Philippines if AFS program terminates this May 2014.  We told her that you would never find balut being sold in your country and to eat it would be something to be proud of.  Proud of? Yes, because balut is considered as one of the most featured exotic foods in the world.

Anyway, here is of the pictures of our Ate Camille eating balut.  You may be the judge if she liked it.  Take note, she ate it with all the French etiquette.
